Wilderness Trace Solar (WTS) was founded in 2015 and installs “Grid Tied” solar power systems for homes, businesses, and institutions. In addition, an objective of WTS is to serve the remote areas of Kentucky with affordable “Off-Grid” electrical power systems.

WTS is located in historic Danville Kentucky, “City of Firsts”. Danville is the location of the first Courthouse in Kentucky (1785), the first U.S. Post Office west of the Alleghenies (1792), where the first Kentucky Constitution was drafted, in (1792) and was the first Capital of Kentucky. In another first, local physician Ephraim McDowell, “Father of Abdominal Surgery,” performed the world’s first successful ovarian surgery in his Danville home.

Danville is located on the 20-mile segment of the Historic Kentucky Wilderness Trail between Logan’s Fort (current day Stanford) and Fort Harrod (current day Harrodsburg). This 20-mile segment of the Wilderness Trail was the epicenter of the terrible American Indian Wars in 1772-1773, that marked the tipping point in the settlement of Kentucky.

The Kentucky Wilderness Trail stretched from Virginia/Cumberland Gap to The Falls of The Ohio (present-day Louisville), to Fort Harrod/Logans Fort, to Fort Boonesboro & present-day Lexington and was the main conduit for the settlement of Kentucky.

Before the Wilderness Trail was widened in the 1770s to allow wagons to pass, the 20-mile segment between Logans’ Fort and Fort Harrod was a footpath or “Trace” for settlers, Native Americans, and animals. (Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, derived its name from the “Traces” that large herds of buffalo in the Blue Grass area of Kentucky used in the 16th – 18th century in Kentucky.)
