Thermal energy from the sun can be used directly for heating or cooling swimming pool water by using “solar collectors”. The solar collectors act as heat exchangers and are integrated into the pool filter system, as shown below.

The Control Box for the Solar Collectors can be programmed to maintain a set temperature for the pool. For periods in which the pool water is hotter than desired, the solar collectors can be used at night to cool the pool water. (This feature is not used very often in Kentucky but used on occasion in Florida).
